Since today is the anniversary of the discovery of water in a soil sample on Mars, I looked for Mars photos to share. I thought I’d find something surreal and beautiful for Just for Fun Friday.
But I found this instead! Hope you enjoy it!

That’s awesome. Does anybody know what the purpose of the spinning was? Soon after they broke out of Earth’s atmosphere, they fired rocks to give the probe a rotational spin. I assumed this was a manned probe and they were going for artificial gravity but they dropped the, seemingly, balast weights soon thereafter to stop it. And there were no humans on board but I didn’t get it at that point.
Also, was this Spirit or Opportunity? I believe one of those guys are still plugging along up there. In any case, they both overshot their expected time to live by a long shot. Not bad for a remote control car at any distance.
That is just my tech side wondering. To bring this back around to be appropriate here, would that interest in the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of the way things work be from Mercury or another that we haven’t gotten to yet?

Thanks, ERin. I’m glad you liked it. On your how and why questions, I tend to think of Mercury for how, mechanical, details, and Jupiter for why, meaning, purpose.
So glad you’re a faithful reader.
