A4B Today – November 2 Clearing out the Past

Source:Wikimedia Commons

Good Day!

Today the Virgo Moon continues to wane, diminishing in light as we approach the New Moon on Friday.  Now is the time to finish up, let go, clean our desks, and get organized to receive and recognize the inspiration which will come at the New Moon.  This is the time for assimilation, documentation, and archiving.  Write that final report and get it off your desk.

This can be a very difficult phase of the lunar cycle for Type A leadership personalities who want to keep moving ahead constantly.  You may get some hints about your next project today, especially as the Moon forms aspects to Venus, Mercury, and the Sun in resourceful Scorpio and Jupiter and Uranus in intuitive Pisces.  If you see a potential, you’ll want to grab it and make it happen.

But not so fast.  This is a time to pause, if not for ourselves, then for those around us.  Encourage your staff to finish up their projects and then set their lives in order:  clear their emails, file hard copies, even clean the bathrooms and dust keyboards and screens.  This is an extremely important part of the natural cycle and one we all tend to skip when we’re moving too fast.  Then we get firmly into the next phase with clutter lingering from the past, and we wonder why we can’t keep up with everything.

The other possibility is that all the watery energy mixed with perfectionist Virgo will cause us to be too lost in our organizing.  Every email we file we’ll want to re-read; every magazine will call us on its way to the recycling bin.  Hours and hours can be wasted in the name of being thorough.  So watch for this too.  The Virgo Moon has an affinity with time; why not set a finite time for yourself and your staff and some reward at the end?  That will keep the energy moving at a clip right to the end of the project.

I once worked in an organization where two hours were set aside every Friday for documentation and archiving.  The only communications allowed during those two hours were those related to documentation.  It was remarkable how much could be accomplished during those two quiet hours and how often we turned to the documentation in the future.  And there was always tea in the café at the end for a bit of relaxing and conversation before heading back into productivity.

The Virgo Moon is excellent for this housekeeping.  If the piles around your office are bugging you (as mine are) allocate a few hours to put away the past.  Like getting a good haircut, this is our opportunity to break with the past and its lingering doubts or regrets.  Then everything will be fresh and ready when the energy begins to increase again next week.

A4B Today – October 28 starring Venus and Mars

Source:Wikimedia Commons

Good Day!

Two major planetary events today: Mars leaves Scorpio and enters Sagittarius and Venus in retrograde motion joins the Sun.  These two events are quite different so don’t be surprised if the day is full of twists and turns.

Mars in Sagittarius

Mars, as the ancient ruler of the sign Scorpio and the lord of aggression and war, has been particularly strong since it entered Scorpio on September 14.  We can all relax a little as he passes into Sagittarius.  If you’ve been grappling with a conflict that just wouldn’t yield, you can expect some breathing room soon, maybe even today.  Issues with investments, debt, insurance, and financial difficulties with partners are on their way to resolution under justice-seeking Sagittarius.

However, as Ray Merriman says, “Mars in Sagittarius can hardly be considered ‘mild.’  This is a wild, untamed horse, waiting to break loose and trample over anything it its path.”  If you have felt stuck lately, watch out.  You could suddenly experience lots of jostling, bravado, and risk-taking. If you do, it’s worth asking yourself:  is anything actually being accomplished?

The best case scenario for Mars in Sagittarius is an ability to stand on the balcony and see patterns in what is happening below.  The long-view should become clearer and the way to apply your staff toward a productive move forward should become apparent.  And people are more willing with Mars in Sagittarius to work as a team to accomplish a worthy goal.  Your challenge is to marshal everyone’s energy and keep it moving in the same direction.

Sun conjunct Venus Retrograde in Scorpio

This is the point exactly half-way through the Venus Retrograde cycle, the point where the Sun and Venus meet behind closed doors to share what’s been learned so far.  Since October 8 when Venus turned retrograde, we’ve all had our share of relationship and financial lessons and today we can become more conscious of how all the pieces fit together.

Up to this point you may have been dealing with matters from the past:  old colleagues coming back into your life; financial issues you thought you had resolved returning; negotiations you thought were settled coming back up for review.  Your staff may have expressed dissatisfaction with their pay or the amount of creative independence you allow them.  Or your creative people were just not as productive as usual.  Perhaps there was more inter-office conflict than usual.   All these are hallmarks of Venus retrograde.

After today you will feel a definite shift in the energy, not so much reviewing and reworking the past as slowly reorganizing to prepare for the future.  Whatever has been revealed by now in your professional relationships is probably the extent of it; now you have to figure out what to do about it.  As long as Venus is retrograde, until November 18, it is not the time to make any major changes.  Evaluation, yes, but change, no.  It is highly likely that other matters will gain in importance once Venus has turned direct, and other people’s behavior can shift too as they come to their own realizations.

It’s also not the time to make major adjustments in your investments or financial strategy.  It’s wonderful if you’ve become more aware of the reality of your financial situation and an excellent time to think through the ramifications of different options.  It’s also fine to renegotiate an existing contract or bank loan.  But it’s easy to react emotionally when Venus is retrograde and to make moves you regret later.  So hold tight.  The worst is probably over and the next three weeks are excellent for reorienting yourself to any new information and frankly discussing and resolving past miscommunications.

Do you have examples of Venus retrograde?  Let us all know in the comments.  I’ll start:  on my recent trip back East I met with former colleagues and employees I hadn’t seen in many years.  I could see how they’ve changed and grown and overcome difficulties they had when I supervised them.  As I let the image I held of them mature I realized that they could now mentor me, as I had mentored them in the past.  This updating of these relationships, as well as the link it provided to a past time, was my gift from Venus retrograde.  How about you?

A4B Today – October 27, Water, water, everywhere!

Source:Wikimedia Commons

Good Day!

If your plans today include accomplishing anything with precision or logic, be sure to get it done early in the day.  Your mind should be sharp this morning; just watch for overblown ideas or thoughts focused too far into the future.  The Moon forms challenging aspects to Jupiter and Uranus this morning which can tend to make us bored with today’s work and much more interested in tomorrow’s.

After noon (MDT) the Moon moves into Cancer where it becomes the seventh celestial body in a water sign.  That’s seven out of ten “planets” in water signs.  That’s a lot of water!

Water signs represent the emotional currents that flow between us and this can manifest as one of those days which is either over the top happy or everything seems to hurt everyone’s feelings.  It may require extra sensitivity on our parts as we interact with colleagues and employees, especially if we tend to operate from our minds rather than our feelings.

When there is this much water around, conflict is bound to rise to the surface.  Deep-seated brewing resentments or jealousies could be revealed.  This is ultimately beneficial but needs careful handling. When so many planets are in water signs there can be a marked lack of objectivity, coupled with impractical solutions, and topped with a lack of confidence that things can change for the better.

Keep your eye on non-verbal behavior too; don’t assume that if everyone’s quiet, all is well.  Notice if people are smiling, smirking, rolling their eyes.  You may have to help guide your staff to more appropriate and positive expressions of what they are feeling.

I was just in a situation where I saw a very seasoned manager deal extremely effectively with a new staff member.  This new employee has very high expectations of herself, and was expressing non-verbal eruptions of frustration through moaning, sighing, and self-deprecating comments:  “I’ll never get this!”  This wasn’t directed at anyone but herself, but the energy was pouring into the atmosphere, upping everyone else’s stress levels.  I really admired how her supervisor pointed out to the new employee what she was doing and how it was affecting those around her, and counseled her kindly but pointedly that she would learn faster if she changed her approach to the work.  Later in the day I heard this new employee thanking her manager; she sincerely appreciated the feedback.  And everyone else in the office was grateful as well.

When the Moon is in Cancer people respond well to nurturing.  Perhaps eating a meal together or bringing goodies to the afternoon meeting will help people express themselves in appropriate ways.  We’re not looking for ultra-rationality today; the water energy has its own gifts to give which include creativity, compassion, empathy, and willingness to connect.  We just want to provide positive outlets for the flow so no one gets caught in a thunderstorm!

A4B Today – October 26 Sun friends Pluto

Source:Wikimedia Commons

Good Day!

As I mentioned in this week’s forecast, Scorpio is a prevalent energy this week and today is no exception.  The Sun in Scorpio forms a harmonious aspect to Pluto in Capricorn.  The Sun represents the most outer and controllable part of ourselves, our ego and our ability as leaders.  Pluto, the planet most closely aligned to the sign Scorpio, represents the most unconscious and uncontrollable part of our lives.  The most apparent outer part meets with the most hidden inner part:  what will be the result?

Pluto in Capricorn represents the upheaval and transformation we are seeing in the massive structures in our world:  government, religion, the economy, industry, and the military, to name a few.   In a most interesting part of astrological philosophy, these most outer and distant edifices in our lives are seen as a projection of our most unconscious inner lives.  Under this philosophy we can never blame our difficulties or reversals of fortune on the wide world out there because any conflicts there are reflections of conflicts inside of us.  If we are having trouble with our board of directors or the IRS or changes in our industry, this is actually the result of deep and transforming adjustments going on within ourselves.

The opportunity of a day like today (and really this is strong enough to influence the whole week) is that this aspect can bring to our conscious minds a recognition of the part we are playing in our own troubles, and the determination to change ourselves and thereby change our fortunes.  And if you’ve reached this point of recognition it’s probably not the first time this year you’ve seen it.  You may have seen a similar pattern which keeps emerging time after time – today is the day you can resolve it.

And here’s a hint for where to look:  conflict.  Many of us subscribe to conflict avoidance – it is one of the most common characteristics of business culture.  Most people want to be liked and don’t want to create tension with people they interact with day after day.  In comes the blessing of Scorpio.  I’ve never known a person strongly influenced by Scorpio who was afraid of conflict.  It’s like the Scorpio energy has a penchant for digging up whatever is uncomfortable, secret, or dysfunctional and laying it bare for all to see.  And this is exactly what is needed and what is offered under today’s aspect.

So how do you keep it friendly and productive?  I’d love to hear your suggestions but I offer the following:

  • Get rid of blame.  When a company culture supports feedback without blame, fewer conflicts are shoved under the carpet, to collect there and erupt later.
  • Be honest with your employees and associates.  Your honesty will elicit others to be frank and above-board, warding off nasty surprises.
  • Be aware that the energy of conflict can evoke radically different solutions than may otherwise have been recognized.
  • As the leader, it’s your job to force disputes to the surface because of the valuable insights which can be gained.  One study found that “conflicts over seemingly technical issues such as procedures, schedules, and lines of authority were in fact proxies for underlying conflicts about values and norms.”  (Ronald Heifetz & Laurie Donald, Harvard Business Review)

So let’s celebrate this week’s Scorpionic environment by taking advantage of its revealing and purifying side.  There’s a lot to be gained and this honesty can lead to another area ruled by Scorpio:  profits!

A4B Today – September 24, Pitru Paksha

Source:Wikimedia Commons

Good Day!

Today the Moon is still in its full lunar phase in Aries.  Although the exact moment of the Full Moon has passed, the next few days carry the same energy.  It’s time to bring your tasks and projects to completion, and demonstrate their value to others.

This feisty, independent energy of the Moon in Aries has one problem today – Mercury in Virgo.  Mercury represents our rational thinking processes and all communications and meetings.  Mercury in Virgo requires precision and organized plans and presentations.  The Moon in Aries just wants “to be starting something” and cares little about precautions or perfections.

You may have to adjust one or another party’s expectations, or separate the two camps for the day.  The best use of this energy would bring your firm’s excitement and winning attitude into careful communications, with everyone’s best interests in mind.  Seems like a fairly tough assignment to me!

Today begins the 14-day Hindu celebration of Pitru Paksha.  Pitru (forefathers) Paksha (phase of the Moon) is an annual celebration honoring ancestors.  It is said that the ancestors return to earth during this time, and honoring them helps their souls remain content.  It is traditional to give charity at this time as a way to give back to those who gave so much to us.

“Ancestors” in this context has come to mean all those whose blessings have allowed us to live a full and happy life.  This refers to all of our biological ancestors, but also any mentors or guides, school teachers, coaches, spiritual advisors, anyone to whom we owe a debt of gratitude.  For those of us in business, it’s a great time to remember and thank anyone who enabled our success, anyone whose example inspired us, or who gave us an opportunity when we needed it most.  It’s also a great time to reach out to others for wisdom and to share our own with others.

Have a wonderful weekend. May all of your guides and guardians be pleased to continue to support you in the coming year!

A4B Today – September 23, Full Moon in Aries

Source:Wikimedia Commons

Good Day!

Today the Moon enters fiery Aries and immediately reaches the Full Moon stage with an opposition to the Sun in Libra.  And oppositional seems to be the keyword for the day, as well as volatile, confrontational, and conflicted.

With the Sun in Libra you may be able to keep an even keel but you’re likely to feel you’re in the middle of a tempest.  Something about the Full moon forces conflicts to rise to the surface and become starkly apparent for all to see.  With the Moon in Aries, the sign of the god of war, there can be a feisty and belligerent tone to the day.  And then the Moon forms difficult aspects with much of the rest of the zodiac which brings challenges in many different guises and forms.

Under all this pressure, our projects and tasks of this lunar cycle roll toward fruition.  But we may have to take a stand and resist people who want to take things too far or in a different direction.  The Aries Moon may incite your customers or staff to demand something new but this lunar phase is about taking something already established over the top, bringing it to perfection, and displaying the fully-baked product for all to see.  See if you can channel the excessive entrepreneurial energy of the day into polishing and presenting.

One thing to watch for today are mistakes.  The Full Moon in Aries can be impulsive and independent and this can lead to damage if you don’t manage it well.  As much as possible foster an environment of teamwork, or at least a buddy system, today.  Make sure each person runs every decision by at least one other person before they take action.  Partnership and cooperation are the foil for the excesses of the Full Moon in Aries.  You’re likely to see less errors if everyone is teamed up with someone.

Even if you’re a one-person shop, run your work by another objective party today before you take it public.  You’re under the same influences – they just all manifest within you.  Find a way to balance independence with collaboration.

On the heels of the equinox yesterday, this is a most powerful Full Moon.  You don’t want to put the brakes on; you just want to maneuver well and carefully through the curve.  Use this energy to show what you and your team of capable of.

A4B Today – September 22, Celebrate the Equinox

Astrologer Observing the Equinox by D. van Wijnen-c. 1680 (Source:Wikimedia Commons)

Good Day!

You may get the feeling today that everyone around you is more tuned in than you are, whether it’s your clients, your employees, or your family.  The Moon in Pisces is channeling the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction we’ve been speaking so much about lately.  The Moon is almost full and it’s true; people around you may be picking up on what’s happening because they are listening more carefully.  As the leader you may be a couple of steps too far in the future.  Try to show up exactly in the present moment and you’ll hear what they are hearing.  And the news will be good.

Of course, the big news of today is the Equinox, the exact moment that day and night are of equal length.  It only lasts an instant even though we celebrate it for an entire day or even the whole month of Libra.  The Equinox is a time that reminds us of change and of the motion in our solar system that creates our sense of time.  This is the day that the scales are tipped and the balance shifts.

One client mentioned that she always feels that today is the last call for making sure her yearly goals are on track and it’s true:  this is the three-quarters point through the year.  Other clients begin their planning for next year at this point; enough of the year has elapsed that they can recognize its pattern and prepare for the next.  Many people have related the feeling of anticipation as the season changes, and the connection to all of the earlier times we’ve been through this exact same point in the cycle.

I’m having a rather unique experience this year.  For twenty years I lived at 7000 feet, where the change of seasons was marked by dramatic shows of color in the drying grasses and shivering aspens.  After that I lived for ten years in the northeast United States which is known the world over for its display of autumn trees encompassing every shade in the color wheel and a few that aren’t even named.

This year I’m in the extreme southern part of the United States, palm trees swaying, roses blooming, it’s 95 degrees (35 C) while I write this in mid-afternoon.  All my neighbors are celebrating how much cooler the weather has become and how much the season has changed.  I have to really peer beneath the surface to notice any difference.   And I do notice that the light has changed, the shadows have lengthened, the sun is hitting my porch at a different angle.  But mainly I feel displaced in time and can really get a sense of how much I rely on these seasonal signals from nature to alert me about the passage of time and give me a sense of the rhythm of life.

The September equinox point is the beginning of the zodiac sign Libra, the sign of the scales of balance.  But the balance is tipping; it never stays still.  Change and motion – today is the reminder of the cycles of time.  Can you take some time to celebrate?

A4B Today – September 21, A Glimpse of the Future

Source:Wikimedia Commons

Good Day!

Two days before the Full Moon, today is a day to let the currents pull you and your team toward the culmination stage in your current project.  You don’t have to do anything but avoid resistance:  the energy just before the Full Moon is a building force and all you have to do is go with it.

The Moon is Pisces brings ultra-sensitivity and a willingness to allow a whole vision to emerge.  Disparate viewpoints merge into coherence, making today ideal to put the finishing touches on a task or project you’ve been overseeing.

The Moon is also in harmony with Venus in Scorpio today which should take the edge off of any competition or subtle undermining that’s been going on.  The best of Venus comes out today, which means creativity and feelings of camaraderie.  Even your relationships with normal antagonists could flow into a working partnership today.

Today is also a day to keep your senses tuned to the next big thing, as the Sun in Virgo opposes the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in Pisces.  This conjunction receives the full light of the Sun today.  Something transformative is being conceived both societally and personally; the conjunction is the very beginning of a new cycle between Jupiter and Uranus and only comes around every fourteen years.  There will be three exact contacts of the conjunction at the beginning of this new cycle.  One occurred on June 8, the second is today, and the third is in early January.  This whole period from June to January is seeding the growth and innovation which will carry our businesses for the next decade and a half.

We have a good chance to get a glimpse of our next breakthrough today but we have to be aware of where to look for clues.  The news is a good place to start.  As you listen to or read the news today try to get the sense of where society is going from here.  Since the conjunction is in Pisces, be sure to especially tune in to the kinds of fields Pisces rules:  fashion, healthcare, the arts, the seas, liquids, physics and mathematics, spirituality, planetary awareness, and caring connection across unrelated groups.

Jupiter and Uranus both function on the level of intuition, so as you take in the day just let the information flow in.  Don’t try to categorize it or analyze it.  Just absorb it.  It will kick off processes in your mind that will rise to the level of awareness on their own with today’s solar opposition.

Today is a day to read the clues and get a sense of the future.  If you spot anything, share it with all of us in the comments.  You never know who will provide the spark for someone else’s breakthrough. Guesses are also fine under this influence; see what you can imagine!

A4B Today – September 17, One-Two Punch

Source:Wikimedia Commons

Good Day!

Today is relatively quiet but Saturday is gangbusters, and these planetary events are so powerful there’s no reason you wouldn’t be feeling them already.  Indeed they’ve been coloring the entire week.

Mars & Pluto

Mars in Scorpio forms an easeful aspect with Pluto in Capricorn on Saturday, which carries forward the tenor we’ve seen all week.  Pluto turned direct on Monday and Mars entered Pluto’s sign, Scorpio, on Tuesday.  We’ve cited examples of this combination all week so if you missed them be sure to check the prior posts.  And don’t miss the comments as readers shared their own stories.

With the harmonious aspect, there’s an open door for more revelations of hidden matters, whether these have been concealed from you by others or you’ve been concealing them from yourself.  There’s a great deal of power released when the truth bubbles to the surface so you may feel these new disclosures instigate a whole new purpose within you.

You may be taken aback and need to seclude yourself to adjust to the reality you glimpse over the next couple of days.  As much as we’d like to think we favor honest revelations, sometimes they require us to modify our own behavior.  Mars in Scorpio demands that we drop our own desires in favor of working in concert with others and for some of us, that’s hard!  And Pluto in Capricorn reveals the stark reality of our business and economic situations.  So it’s no picnic.

Jupiter & Uranus

The other major aspect is so different that I’m eager to see how they both play out together.  While Mars in Scorpio with Pluto is everything secretive, instinctual, defensive, and self-protective, there is also a Jupiter/Uranus conjunction exact on Saturday.  Jupiter and Uranus are bright, rational, clear, and future focused.  The two separate aspects are within two hours of each other Saturday evening (MDT), a one-two punch.

Jupiter and Uranus meet in their travels around the zodiac about every fourteen years.  Due to retrograde motion they may contact each other three times within a few months and then move apart again.  The current cycle began with their first contact on June 8 with both planets in the sign Aries.  Now both in retrograde motion, they meet in Pisces and will turn around to meet again in direct motion in Pisces in January.

I’m fascinated by the planets’ foray into Aries and then backing up into Pisces.  Aries is considered the first sign of the zodiac, the sign associated in the northern hemisphere with Spring.  When they met in June both planets were within the first degree of Aries.  Aries is the spark of individuality, the single organism separating from the collective and standing on its own.  But now they both moved back into Pisces!  It’s like that first fish that sprouted lungs, scratched onto the shore, takes one breath, and runs back into the sea!

To bring this into business terms, we were likely to really feel inspired in June under the first Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in Aries:  a new business, a new venture beckoned us; a break from the past seemed a reality.  And then both planets turned retrograde.  All of a sudden there were holes in our plan; the energy fell out; our enthusiasm waned.  As Jupiter and Uranus inched back into Pisces, our spark of Aries independence waned.  We fell back into a pattern from the past, one much less entrepreneurial and individualistic.  If you were experimenting with new business forms, you probably reverted.  If a new product idea seemed feasible, you probably had to let it go.  If you engaged new clients, the relationship may have stalled.

On Saturday Jupiter and Uranus meet again in retrograde motion.  Deep in the recesses of your mind, there is a new idea being born.  Yes, it may bear a resemblance to something you thought was left behind for good.  And while both planets are in retrograde motion, it may be hard to clearly distinguish the next step for your business innovation and that’s OK – it’s not time for a fully baked idea yet.  But if you listen carefully, you may hear the stirrings of your next big move, even if it sounds familiar.

One or Both?

So which will you experience, the subterfuge and power issues of Mars, Pluto, and Scorpio or the creative business idea of Jupiter and Uranus?  Let’s keep our senses peeled and continue to share in the comments what the next two days bring.

Have a revealing weekend!

A4B Today – September 16, Moon in Capricorn

Source:Wikimedia Commons

Are you ready to work today?  With the waxing Moon in Capricorn, it’s time to get busy.   Capricorn is an active sign, focused on real accomplishment in the actual physical world.  Not planning, thinking about planning, or planning to plan.  This is about activity and achievement.

One symbol for Capricorn is the mountain goat, steadily climbing step-by-step up the mountain until it reaches the top.  This is a good image for today.  The Moon aspects Venus, Saturn, and Mercury very, very early in the morning (MDT) and then there are no other major aspects until tomorrow.  This gives us the whole day to be like that goat, steady and sure-footed all day.

If you set a goal at the beginning of the day you’ll surely reach it by the end.  There are no external obstacles and no impediments today.  So take advantage of the stars today:  this is the most productive day of the week.

And if you can get out in the evening, don’t miss Venus.  She’s at her brightest magnitude right now and really a sight to behold.  If you go for this kind of thing, it’s a great evening to wave a candle or stick of incense to her and thank her for the blessings she brings to our lives:  love, relationship, money, luxuries, and beauty.  She likes to be acknowledged and admired and she’s close and listening tonight.
