Hello, everyone.

This is another very quiet, restorative week following on the heels of our summer (or winter) of transformation.  The waning Moon provides a natural period of wrapping up projects and retrograde Mercury continues to provide down-time, time to review and reflect and reorganize.  The only major aspects for the week are a Sun/Mercury conjunction on Friday and an inspiring Venus/Neptune contact on Saturday.

Friday

Retrograde Mercury joins the Sun today which marks the midway point of the retrograde cycle.  You may notice the energy begin to shift today and if you take some quiet time you may be able to see what is on the horizon.

The best book on retrograde motion is called Retrograde Planets by Erin Sullivan.  I return again and again to this book.  It’s one of those from which you learn something new on each reading.  This is a quote from this excellent book addressing the conjunction of the Sun and Mercury:

A fertilization occurs at [this conjunction] which gestates throughout the last half of the retrograde cycle, birthing shortly after Mercury …turns direct about ten days later.  What is revealed at the conjunction is appropriate to the new beginning which emerges at the stationary direct point.

Let’s all watch this Friday to see if we can sense what will emerge in 10 days.  This is an excellent exercise to fine-tune our intuition and work with the retrograde Mercury cycle.  Here’s a hint:  since the Sun and Mercury are in Virgo, an earth sign, let’s look for a message about a practical matter such as our work, day-to-day schedules and routines, or the solution to an employee or employment matter.

Saturday

This day is lovely for anything to do with the arts, with an aspect of harmony between Venus in Libra and Neptune in Aquarius.  You should feel really “in-tune” today, connected to others, and willingly sharing time and energy with them.  Art museums, jazz, dance, multi-media, theater  – all of these will feed your mind today, especially if you attend with a favorite someone else.

If your creative team is meeting today, be sure to have someone on hand to capture all of the product and marketing ideas.  One risk of this particular aspect is that our inspiration is flowing so abundantly we may think it will continue like this always, like we’ve stumbled upon the temple of the Muse!  We may have but we’ll be invited to wander on by the end of the day, so be sure you’ve recorded every bit of revelation before you come back down to earth.

Have a wonderful week and remember to check back daily for updates on the wandering Moon and on Tuesday for the Forecast for September.

Hello everyone.

Feel like stepping forward?  Good, because this is the week we’ve been waiting for, the week that will push, pull, and prod us into action.  The energies of this summer of transformation are at their peak this week so let’s go for it!  Set an intention now that this week will reveal what’s needed to take your business to a new level and it will deliver.  The major aspects of the week are on Monday and then at the end of the week, so you’ll have time to breathe.

Monday

The last time Jupiter opposed Saturn was on May 22, in the signs of Pisces and Virgo.  At that time I wrote that both of these planets are beneficial for business:  Jupiter the urge to expand into new products and territories; Saturn the urge to plan and monitor for successful implementation.  Today it’s a little different.  For one thing Jupiter and Saturn are in Aries and Libra respectively; cardinal signs bent on action rather than the mutable Pisces and Virgo which favor integration.  Balance is still the key but it may be harder to achieve today.

Since Saturn is in Libra, where it operates most strongly, and Jupiter is retrograde, I’d say that Saturn has the upper hand. The forces of limitation, contraction, and conservation are much stronger right now than the forces of expansion, optimism, and confidence – just look at the trouble we’re having coming out of this recession!  I can’t help but think this is a good thing; conservative action now will set the stage for expansion when the time is right.

So if your activities are curtailed today, just go with it.  Saturn lends practical common sense and in Libra, responsible action in relationship to others.  With Saturn’s influence you will understand the need to bide your time.

Friday

In the early morning on Friday, MDT, the Sun in Leo opposes Neptune retrograde in Aquarius.  This is a turning point in the Neptune retrograde cycle which began on May 31 and will continue until November 7.

When Neptune is in retrograde motion it is in the opposite sector of the sky from the Sun.  Symbolically, this retrograde time puts the Sun, which represents us as business owners and team leaders, at odds with the currents and fashions of the time, represented by Neptune.  It’s like we want to be independent, the master of our own fates, and we chafe against being required to submerge ourselves into any collective.

But at the opposition we reach a turning point, potentially a point of integration, where we can begin to balance again our desire for autonomy with a beneficial collaboration with others.  After what may have been a disorienting period of isolation since the end of May, we find ourselves welcoming more interaction, especially across the social network world of Neptune in Aquarius.

The retrograde period isn’t over; it’s still time to rethink and review our engagement with the whole global versus local issue.  But now at the opposition we feel less threatened and more willing to connect.

That’s not all for today, though.  Venus joins Mars in Libra, which is good for Venus and not so good for Mars.  We’ll cover this meetup later in the week.

And….drum roll please….Mercury returns to retrograde motion today for one of its tri-annual three week periods.  No alarms or palpitations, we’ve been examining the fruits of Mercury retrograde in this blog for some time and we’ll continue it this week so you can be prepared to get the best out of it.  To get you started, there’s a link below with 10 Best Practices for Mercury Retrograde.

Saturday

On Saturday, Saturn in Libra challenges Pluto in Capricorn for the last time in this long series.  Ray Merriman of The Merriman Market Analyst describes the effect of this square on government debt by contrasting it to the recent Jupiter/Pluto square:

And finally, the third and last passage of the 32-37 year waning square between Saturn and Pluto takes place on August 21, which has correspondence to world-wide government debt, much like Jupiter square Pluto does. The difference between Jupiter-Pluto square versus Saturn-Pluto square is that the former wants to attack debt by increasing spending (i.e. economic stimulus programs, ala Keynesian economic principles), whereas the latter wants to attack the exploding debt by cutting back on spending programs (i.e. austerity measures and economic contraction).

Has your debt exploded?  Are you more of a Jupiter/Pluto person (you’ve got to spend money to make money) or more of a Saturn/Pluto person (cutting spending is the only way out)?  With Saturn strong in Libra we’ll probably all continue to cut back and this should hold us steady until we get past the shake-up of these transits.

I’ve written a great deal in this blog about this year’s Saturn/Pluto challenge.  I’ll list the links below.  I’m sure you’ll find them fun and interesting. (I do!)

Sunday

On Sunday the Sun enters Virgo, marking a significant shift in season.  All of the major challenging aspects are over and the sign of Virgo is a perfect receptacle to help us assimilate all that has changed.  Look for more on the sign of Virgo on this blog later this week.

Just before the Sun enters Virgo it forms an uncomfortable aspect to Uranus retrograde in Pisces.  Watch for overreaction with this transit – you may want to push ahead on a major project that you’ve put on hold for good reason, just so you can feel like you’re moving forward.  Don’t invest too much time or money at this point.  You don’t have the clarity you need yet.

Whew!  Have an excellent, energizing week, and let me know how it all plays out!

A4B Today – August 6 Ladies’ Day (& Night)

Source:Wikimedia Commons

Good Day!

This is a ladies’ day when the two ladies of the sky, the Moon and Venus, both enter their own signs.  The Moon enters Cancer today where she will spend a couple of days before she moves into Leo and the next New Moon and Venus enters Libra.

When the Moon is in Cancer, expect yourself and the people around you to be particularly emotional  In a best case scenario we’re willing to connect and care about each other more than usual; in the worst case we can tend to be over-sensitive or defensive.  If you’re making a presentation to potential customers today be prepared to address a level of questioning that may seem more personal than professional.  People want to bond emotionally today, and if you can help them feel that they’re more than a paycheck to you you’ll be sure to win the sale.

It may be a challenging day in that the Moon, once it enters Cancer, will in turn make difficult aspects to Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, and Pluto.  In other words, she steps right into the middle of the big battle that’s going on with the outer heavyweight planets.  Don’t underestimate the power of the feminine energy in her home sign though; people may not look fierce on the surface today but they will exhibit strong and capable behavior through feelings and desires.  The Moon in Cancer actually provides a counter-weight to all the other conflicts, another way of looking at things that may be just the light you need.

Remember, this is a very receptive time, both because the Moon is in Cancer and because we are at the very end of the lunar cycle.  This is a time of preparation so just take it all in today; don’t expect to begin anything new.  You’re still gathering information and resources for the next leg of the journey; if you make decisions or step out now you may find yourself unprepared for what comes next.  Next week is a much better time for actually committing to a new course of action.

Toward the end of the day Venus returns to her home sign, Libra.  Venus is strong in Libra and she sets her sights on peace, diplomacy, and pleasure.  Friday is Venus’ day every week and to understand Venus in Libra think about a Friday night.  Isn’t it just the best time of the week?  The whole weekend is ahead, people are happy, it’s a great date night, almost everyone is easeful and relaxed.  This is what we can expect from the whole month that Venus is in Libra.  Look for this Friday night energy in everything you do; your staff and colleagues will want to work together, want to enjoy themselves, and will be more relaxed with each other than usual – a great blessing to help us get through the next couple weeks of the culmination of this summer of transformation.

Venus interacts with the Cardinal T-square this weekend, so in case you missed it I’m going to repeat what I posted on the weekly forecast so you can take full advantage of the energy.

Saturday

On Saturday Venus opposes Uranus in Aries, which could set off some fireworks.  There’s excitability about this contact and a desire for unconventional behavior.  There’s certainly a creative spark in the air and if you are working today your team should be able to produce some of the most unique work you’ve seen in a while – as long as you give them free rein.  Don’t worry – you can pick up the pieces tomorrow.

Sunday

On Sunday, everyone’s feet come back onto the ground with a Venus/Saturn conjunction.  After the excitement of the week, this is a great day to see where you stand.  Take the best of the week and put some structure around it – today’s the day to confirm any business agreements you’ve made.  In fact, what you put in place today will stay in place for a good long while and will bring firm judgment and conservatism to your business relationships.  Don’t make it too heavy though; allow for some enjoyment and laughter along the way.

Have an excellent weekend!

A4B Today – August 5, Ask for Feedback

Source:Wikimedia Commons

Good Day!

Today is a good day with very little happening in the sky except for a supportive aspect between the Sun in Leo and the Moon in Gemini.  Of course, the conflicting energies of the outer planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto, are still in the background – there’s no escaping these guys all summer long.  But it will probably feel distant today as there’s no direct link between those planets and the planets more involved with our personal lives.

This is the very end of this month’s lunar cycle, a time for clean-up and hand-off.  Bring your projects to completion or at least call a halt to the current phase.  The next few days are meant for pausing and refreshing our ideas and our energy.

With the Moon in Gemini it’s a great time to ask for feedback; be sure to schedule some time with your customers or employees and ask them how it’s going.  The Gemini Moon puts people in the mood to talk and it’s likely you’ll be relaxed enough today to actually hear what they say.  Even calling a large meeting specifically designed to elicit feedback would yield actionable information and insights today.

Gather all of the information you can, ready to make use of it during the next cycle which starts on Monday. And then once your meetings are over, grab a newspaper, magazine, or your favorite reader and catch up on current thinking and current trends.  This coming weekend is likely to be over-the-top busy, so take a few hours now. This isn’t a time for planning or trying to put new ideas into motion, but it is excellent for surveying the landscape and preparing the soil of your imagination to receive the next great insight at the next New Moon.

Have a very informative day!

Hello, everyone.

This week channels more of the major aspects of our summer of transformation right into our personal lives, especially into our personal and business relationships.  Mars and Venus enter the degrees of the zodiac where they meet and then transmit the Jupiter/Uranus/Saturn/Pluto T-square with immediacy.  Conditions we are used to seeing enacted on a global stage with distant entities such as the government, the media, or big business intersect with our daily lives again this week.  Now we get to interact firsthand with the challenges of today and we also get our opportunity to do our small part to resolve them.  The global becomes local this week.

Monday

Monday hosts one of the biggest transits of the summer, although you may not feel it on that particular day.  These transits carry so much weight that they are really in effect for two weeks before and after they are exact.  Jupiter and Pluto, two heavyweights, square off against each other in the ring and only time will tell which will prevail.  It reminds me of the recent movie, Clash of the Titans, with Jupiter and Pluto at odds and poor Perseus had to react to their drama with his all too human vulnerabilities.

One aspect of this clash I’m becoming aware of is in the tension we’ve seen between the press (Jupiter) and the government (Pluto in Capricorn) due to the leaking of military information through Wikileaks to the New York Times and other newspapers.  But how does this aspect apply to our businesses?

I think we should all keep this in mind:  the truth will come out.  Jupiter rules justice and what we consider to be lawful and fair.  Pluto rules the deep, dark, taboo places that no one wants to admit are there:  secrets about life, death, sexuality, and our intimate interactions with each other including financial transactions.  With tension between these two, my best advice to you for this summer is to keep your dealings above board and squeaky clean.  Pay your payroll taxes.  Make your loan payments on time.  Keep your negotiations on the table.  Take your lawyer, accountant, or HR Director with you when you need to confront someone.  Check the regulations that apply to your business.  Make sure you’re following the letter of the law.

The energies of this time are about revealing what is hidden, pulling to the surface transgressions and subterfuge.  So if you’ve got skeletons hiding in the closet, open that door, let the light in, and with expert advice if necessary, disinter and disinfect while it’s still in your power to do so.

Tuesday

On Tuesday Mars in Libra joins the fray, bringing the potential for a clash of principles which could erupt between you and your team or between two factions within your business.  There is a powerful urge for dominance and territory when Mars meets Jupiter and Pluto, although the Libran Mars may coat its urges in sweet-talk.  But have no doubt, there’s steel beneath that soft exterior and a strong will to win.  Put this to work for your business.  This is an excellent time to get to the truth of matters, to finally understand what’s been blocking your forward momentum, and to strategically remove obstacles.

These energies need a strong hand.  Bring the best of your leadership skills to each situation, and if you need support and back-up, ask for it.

Wednesday

At this point in the week Venus comes on the scene, although on Wednesday she may bring more confusion than assistance.  At the very end of her travels through Virgo, you still may not be satisfied with the lack of clarity around your finances and still not have a plan to address it.  But today, with Neptune in Aquarius crossing every attempt at efficiency, you’re probably as far as you’re going to get this time around.

Your social interactions today range near and far and I wouldn’t say practical productivity will be high on the list today; but inspiration could be as long as you’re able to weave and meld far-reaching influences into realistic product design and useful creative output.

Friday

On Friday, Venus enters Libra for about a month which should help balance and soothe the energies of August.  Venus in Libra is a time when we reach for harmony in relationships, as well as turn our attention to art, design, fashion, and beauty.  We are more than usually willing to give others the benefit of the doubt; we’re interested in teaming with rather than fighting against others.

Group efforts pay off and financial rewards come through partnership with Venus in Libra.  Create opportunities for your staff to interact; invite collaboration and teamwork.  Send teams into presentations rather than going it solo; you’ll make a better impression when clients see your ability to cooperate.

Astro4Business Monthly Forecast – August 2010

Solar_system
Hello, everyone.

We’ve arrived at August, the astrological height of the year 2010.  What are the planetary influences this month and how can we work with them?

  • We’ll start with the most long-range and overarching influences, the planets Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus, which you will notice do not travel far from month to month but stay in the same sector of the sky for many years.
  • Then we will look at the mid-range influences, Jupiter and Saturn, which stay in the same sign for 1 – 2.5 years.
  • We’ll look at the personal planets, Mars, Venus, Mercury, and the Sun which stay in their respective signs for much shorter periods and primarily influence our day-to-day lives.
  • And last we’ll look at the sign and dates for the New and Full Moon, as these mark the waxing and waning cycles in our daily lives.

Pluto in Capricorn

We’ve spoken at length about Pluto in Capricorn (see category at right), where it will remain until 2024.  In a nutshell, this long transit will bring deep change and upheaval to many of the structures we have come to rely upon:  government, religion, the economy, industry, and the military, to name a few.  This transit carries the energy of revolution and evolution and can be dramatic and at times overwhelming.  Pluto exposes what is hidden, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse.

Pluto hastens and intensifies the processes of endings and new beginnings, and in Capricorn will bring about the ending of our business pursuits that are no longer suited to our growth and personal evolution.  Whatever has been slowly leaking vitality will go ahead and die, including old business models, practices, and products.

This is formidable energy, and your best strategy is to tune in and work with it.  Find an area in your business life in need of renewal and begin the process before Pluto reaches planets in your chart and forces the issue.

Everyone with planets in the first seven degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn is already dealing with this energy.  You’ve probably noticed a deeper and deeper probing and cleansing all year long, related to the issues mentioned above.  Pluto transits can be difficult, but when the work is through, they are the most rewarding because we are irrevocably freed from a long-standing, but hidden, issue.

Neptune in Aquarius

With Neptune in Aquarius (see category at right) from 1998 to 2011, we’ve seen a growing global consensus regarding the equal value of all beings, shared responsibility for our planet, the distribution of technology to all nations, and the right of each person to contribute to and further the base of common knowledge.

The best way to work with this energy is to allow your rational mind to open to waves of inspiration from the collective whole, from your local community to the global community.  Expect to be inspired by your neighbors and friends, both near and far.

If you have planets between 25 and 28 degrees of any sign expect to experience a subtle but powerful dissatisfaction with certain areas of your life and a yearning for a more meaningful connection to others.  This disconcerting influence can dissolve the forms in our life that have no real content for us anymore.  This can be disorienting and confusing while it is happening but once these deeper connections are made, the benefits are rewarding and long-lasting.

Uranus in Aries/Pisces

In July Uranus entered its annual cycle of retrograde motion.  During the entire month of July it slowly travelled back through the very first degree of Aries, and now in August it will move back into Pisces where it will remain until next March.

Since May 27, when Uranus entered Aries, we’ve been getting to know a new face of Uranus. Aries is the spark of entrepreneurial spirit, the initiating drive toward independence and individuality.  You may have noticed new ideas incubating and a spirit of bold entrepreneurship in and around your business.  But when Uranus moved into retrograde motion, there was probably a disruption in this full-speed-ahead current.  You may now feel ambivalent or dissatisfied with your new ideas and initiatives.

And when Uranus moves back into Pisces there’s another major shift. Yes, this is familiar territory; Uranus was in Pisces for most of the last seven years, since March 2003.  But it may feel bizarre to be stepping back in time.  From the entrepreneurial spirit we again enter the collective.  From our recent forays into a new style of leadership, we fall back into flattened hierarchies and committee leadership.  From enhanced independence we’re back to collaboration and alliances.

Our whole society will seem to be taking steps backwards.  Must be something more to learn!

Saturn in Libra

In July, Saturn entered the sign of Libra where it will stay until October 2012.  Saturn is exalted in Libra which means it has a special affinity to the sign and if you’re willing to do the work, there is a promised payoff.  See the category to the right on this important transit, but in a nutshell:  what is the work of Saturn in Libra?  To develop patience, persistence, responsibility, and humility in relationships.  What is the payoff?  Cooperation and mutual support.

Until October, Saturn is in square aspect to Pluto in Capricorn (see above).  The stress of this square aspect will bring the end to structures that are no longer working in our businesses (and in our world.)  The Saturn energy will attempt to install the Libra values of equity, parity, diplomacy, collaboration, and cooperation while the Pluto energy brings more and more destructive patterns to the surface for all to see.  This configuration becomes exact on August 21 and we can expect this conflicting energy to build until then and then begin to taper off.

Jupiter in Aries

In June, Jupiter, the planet of opportunity and expansion, entered Aries.  Aries is an initiatory sign and Jupiter thinks big.  Your former goals may have felt too limiting and you may have experienced a passion for growth, expansion, competition, and claiming new territories

Then Jupiter entered retrograde motion on July 23.  We may have found our enthusiasm flagging for our new products and plans.  The forward momentum we’d been enjoying may have reversed, and now we find ourselves more restrained.  This is an important phase for realistically assessing how much we can get done, to curtail overdoing and over-committing, and to take the time to slowly grow a project to completion.

During August, Jupiter opposes Saturn which may cause you to feel that you don’t know whether to brake or accelerate.  The energy of conservatism is strong from Saturn’s placement in Libra and Jupiter’s enthusiasm is weakened due to retrograde motion.  So a gentle foot on the brake is called for, or how about down-shifting so you don’t have to ride the brakes at all?

During August Jupiter is also in difficult aspect with Pluto.  This can bring you face to face with the material realities of this time, whether governmental, regulatory, or economic.  Even nature can seem to thwart your every move.  How to work with this energy?  I’d say wait it out.  Patience can help you simply witness all the comings and goings, knowing that this time is paving the way for opportunities once some of the dross has been burned out of the system.

Mars in Libra

Mars spends the month in Libra, another indication to bide your time and let matters take their course.  Mars, the planet representing action, aggression, and applied energy, is weakened when in Libra, and with all of the other planetary conflicts this can be a good thing.  When Mars is in Libra we are more circumspect and concerned with the impact of our actions on other people.  So if you feel your competitive drive is weak this month, use your time and energy to support others.  This will rebalance and replenish your drive.

Venus in Virgo/Libra

Until August 6, Venus is in Virgo where she has a bad reputation for being nit-picking, perfectionistic, and fault-finding.  Not us, surely!  When Venus is in Virgo our happiness, creativity and productivity comes from our daily routines.  We like nothing better than to arrive at work on time, put in a good day, and then eat a nourishing meal in the evening.  The more you can build a productive, repetitive schedule into your day, the happier you will feel.

When Venus enters Libra on the 6th, we find our day-to-day happiness in relationships, art, beauty, fashion, and generally getting along and supporting each other.  This is another major boon as we work through the difficult outer planet conflicts.  We will be more than usually accommodating and willing to compromise and so will the folks around us.

Mercury in Virgo

Mercury is in Virgo all month and this is great for writing, documentation, and detailed project plans.  Also great for getting that bookkeeping caught up!  Mercury in Virgo loves to talk, write, and think about commerce and wants to accomplish practical outcomes by the end of each day.

And the good news is we get a good long spell of Mercury in Virgo, because Mercury turns retrograde on August 20 for three weeks.  More and more astrologers are spreading the news that Mercury retrograde can be a good thing, not the demon many people think it is.  See the link below for 10 Best Practices for Mercury Retrograde.

Sun in Leo/Virgo

The Sun in Leo until August 23 supports us to step into the limelight.  As the leader of your team, this is the time of year par excellence to set direction and reinforce your authority.  You may become hyper-sensitive to issues of loyalty, recognizing who on your team is really on your team, and who is just passing through.  Of course, loyalty is a two-way street, usually only given when it is received in kind.

When the Sun moves into Virgo, your style of leadership changes completely.  You know the saying, To Lead is to Serve?  (There is also an excellent book of the same name by Shar McBee.)  That phrase is the perfect expression of the Sun in Virgo.  Come down a notch and see what your team needs from you, and then offer it.  This will keep them productive and you in touch with the practical details of your business.  That’s the Sun in Virgo!

Phases of the Moon

The New Moon is in Leo on August 9, waxing to full in Pisces on August 24.  We’ll examine the lunar phases in the weekly and daily forecasts in August.

Monthly Recap

Another big month in our summer of transformation!  With all of the outer planets except Saturn in retrograde motion we will find ourselves retracing our steps and reevaluating our progress.  With Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto in a most difficult configuration, we take the support of Venus and Mars in Libra to keep us balanced, steady, and compassionate amidst the turmoil.  Share some art or music with others to raise your spirits and bolster your relationships.  The Sun in Leo will help you be generous with your staff and colleagues and when the Sun moves into Virgo and joins Mercury there, service becomes the keyword for the rest of the month.

Have a great month and let me know how it all plays out!

A4B Today – July 27, Agree to Disagree

Source:Wikimedia Commons

Good Day!

Today is one of the lighter days of this very dynamic week, although it has its share of challenges.  It’s a day of Earth and Air, two very different realms, which you may have to negotiate all day long.  Mercury, Venus, and Mars are in Virgo; this is your “at their desks early, organized, and ready” team; while the Moon and Neptune join in Aquarius, your “straggle in late and need coffee” team because of the brilliant ideas they stayed up with last night.  See the classic Earth/Air conflict?

Mercury enters Earth sign Virgo today, a very strong placement for this planet of thought and communication.  When Mercury is in Virgo we tend to get specific, perfectionistic, and even critical in our thinking.  We want our paperwork organized and communication precise and have no patience for foolish ideas.  Mercury wears several different hats and when he’s in Virgo we become shrewd negotiators and detectives.  Combined with the current placement of Venus and Mars in Virgo, we will want all spoken and written communications to lead directly to commerce, and we may lose our temper with idleness or too much social networking time.

And yet there are some very strong influences leading in the other direction today.  With the Moon in Air sign Aquarius meeting Neptune, another contingent is running on imagination, input ,and inspiration, which just looks like a fool’s errand to the other group.  The very highest outcome for today would be “productive creativity” with your staff collaborating to bring their brightest ideas to concrete plans and outcomes.  But these two viewpoints are so different there’s very little chance of reconciliation.

Maybe it’s just a day to agree to disagree.  I don’t think the creative thinking types are going to buckle down to productivity today, and I don’t think the ones focused on getting “real” work done are going to leave their desks for any non-linear, right-brain activities.

The aspect between Virgo and Aquarius is known as a quincunx, 150 degrees apart.  Astrologers recommend “adjustment” for this aspect with each side compromising for the other but I think we should just let the two camps diverge for a day or two.  These influences, especially the Moon’s, will pass soon enough and it’s just not worth the energy it would take to bridge the gap between the two.

And for you “one person shop” readers, if all of this plays out within you, just do whichever feels most natural and call it a day.

A4B Today – July 7, Document

Good Day!

Today the waning Moon continues its journey through Taurus, lending steadiness and practicality to our day.  We continue to put our projects to rest, clear our desks, and tie up loose ends as we prepare for the New Moon coming on Sunday.

The first part of today is excellent for documentation, recording step-by-step procedures, and refining processes that you want to carry over into next month.  With Mars in Virgo and Mercury in Cancer we’ve got the energy for detailed specifications and we care enough to do it.

I know I speak about documentation a lot in this blog, and being a Fire and Air type myself, it took me many years to invest my time that way.  I worked for an organization a few years ago that took documentation very seriously, and after my initial resistance, I realized there is no other tool that saves so much time.  As I started recording the steps involved in performing each task I started to build a database of best practices – for myself!  Each time I followed the steps I had written down the last time, I found ways to become more and more efficient until tasks would take ½ as much time as they had in the past.  Check, check, check:  I’d go down the list without my mind wandering or needing to recreate the wheel each time.  My mental space became much more free and clear.

There’s an anecdote about Albert Einstein that illustrates this:

ONE OF Einstein’s colleagues asked him for his telephone number one day. Einstein reached for a telephone directory and looked it up. “You don’t remember your own number?” the man asked, startled.

“No,” Einstein answered. “Why should I memorize something I can so easily get from a book?”

In fact, Einstein claimed never to memorize anything which could be looked up in less than two minutes.*

I always took this to mean he preferred to keep his mind disentangled from details so he could perceive the big picture.  This is how it is with documentation.  Each time I break a complex process into a step-by-step procedure and archive it so I can retrieve it easily, I gain space and time (I think Einstein would approve.)   Also, bringing a task to that level of specificity also allows me to hand it off to someone else.  Once I gained the habit of documentation I realized that many of the tasks I performed each day were still on my list only because I hadn’t taken the time to explain them clearly to someone else and hand them off.

So if you’re a frequent documenter, today is your day – you’ll love this Moon/Mercury/Mars energy.  And if, like me, you’re resisting, try one task that you repeat over and over and have to think about every time.  You’ll thank yourself next time you can pull up that list and tick right through it, or better yet, hand it over for someone else to do!

Later in the day, the Moon comes into challenging aspect with Venus in Leo and Neptune in Aquarius, foreshadowing tomorrow’s Venus/Neptune stand-off.  So take care of all your outstanding chores today; tomorrow’s dynamics will demand all of your attention.

A4B Today – July 5, Celebrate

Good Day!

The waning Moon continues its journey through Aries.  This Fourth Quarter phase is the time for handing-off, handing over, and letting go, yes, but with the Moon in Aries we must be careful to not act too hastily. We may have the urge to burn our bridges behind us, which is fine as long as you’re sure there is no value left in what you built over the last three weeks.  If the value is still there, try to slow down and make sure your handover is complete.  There still may be a need for some careful mentoring as you hand-off the project to others.

If you’re celebrating the USA Independence Day holiday today, a Moon/Venus aspect in fire signs means it’s a day for fun, recreation, and competition.  Parades, fireworks, face-painting:  a perfect aspect for the summer holiday.

And later in the day the Moon and Neptune are in harmony, which just may bring musical harmony into the day as well.  You’ll like nothing more than crowds of people today, the more the better.  How about an outdoor concert?  Or a big sporting event?

If you’re not celebrating the US Holiday, these energies can be used to raise people’s enthusiasm and creativity.  If you give your staff a stage today to display their talents, you’ll feed everyone’s need for recognition and acknowledgement.  A happy staff is a creative staff and a creative staff will impress customers and clients.

Today  is the day that Uranus begins retrograde motion.  In case you missed the weekly forecast, here is the advice from that post:

When Uranus entered the sign of Aries a few weeks ago, we were probably flooded with new ideas for our business, innovations we couldn’t wait to try, restructuring whose time had finally come.  We may have been “on fire” with potential and possibility.

We’ve come into retrograde motion so quickly, but perhaps not a moment too soon.  Especially with unpredictable Uranus in impulsive, risk-loving Aries, those innovations we were so fired up about could probably use a second look.  And this is the gift of retrograde motion – it gives us a chance to retrace our steps, to check initial results against our expectations, and to correct decisions before they can do real damage.

When a planet moves into retrograde motion, we can experience reversals and disruptions for a week on either side.  The tricky part about the outer planets, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, is that the reversals could well seem to be coming from forces outside yourself:  that new project doesn’t get approved after all, that funding doesn’t come through as scheduled.  If this is your experience, take a step back.  Uranus can act suddenly and swiftly but after a couple of weeks, as we adjust to the retrograde energy, we’ll discover the purpose for the setback.  And then we’ll be thanking our lucky stars!

Hello, everyone.

A full week ahead with Mercury and Venus changing signs and both planets highlighted by aspects in the latter part of the week.  Uranus proceeds into retrograde motion on Monday; with unpredictable Uranus, expect the unexpected all week.  And the New Moon and Solar Eclipse end the week with a need for withdrawal and reflection.

Monday

Each year Uranus spends five months in retrograde motion.  Retrograde motion is a visual event rather than an astronomical one.  From our vantage point on earth, it looks like the planet begins to move backward against the backdrop of the constellations.

Thursday

Thursday can be an absolutely wonderful day if we can find the sweet spot between our desire for personal acclaim and acknowledging how much we owe to others for our success.  Venus in Leo wants personal recognition but is opposed by Neptune in Aquarius.  Neptune always asks us to focus on what’s similar between us rather than what is unique in one of us. During this long transit of Neptune in Aquarius, we’re all interdependent with support coming virtually from near and far.  If we remember to give credit where credit is due today, it will be easy to make connections that last.

And with a Mercury/Saturn sextile today, our communications will tend to be serious and accomplishment oriented.  No frivolous chatting today.  If you have an important meeting, keep in mind the Venus/Neptune advice above, but be sure to display your own credentials too.  Rational, logical, and well-prepared will impress others today.

Friday

On Friday, the messenger of the gods, Mercury, enters Leo where he may think he is god!  Mercury rules our rational mind and when he’s in Leo, we may tend to think that everything we think is the absolute truth and each one of our words should be taken as authority.   We may be out to prove the superiority of our intellects while Mercury is in Leo, but so will everyone else.  This is a time to warn your team to take it down a notch, and not come across as overconfident or bullying.

Just after Mercury moves into Leo it forms an excellent aspect with Uranus, newly retrograde in Aries.  This may give you your first glimmering of how best to proceed if you faced unexpected disruptions this week.  And I would say that communication is the key.  Make sure your team knows if the direction has changed and open the door for their suggestions.

Saturday

Venus changes signs today, from flashy Leo to work-oriented Virgo, and you may experience this as a bit of a come-down.  The flair and drama of Leo gives way to a more grounded, practical interchange with others and our social instincts will tend toward “you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.”  A very serious financial planner may emerge from within you as well who will watch every penny.  After the overly-generous Leo stint, this could be a welcome relief.

The Sun in Cancer also teams up with Mars in Virgo which makes us seriously consider each and every action.  We only want to act if we have a plan and are pretty certain how everything will turn out.  It’s fine; if you spend the day arranging, problem-solving, and organizing, you’ll be happy (Venus in Virgo) and productive (Mars in Virgo.)

Sunday

Sunday should start off upbeat and confident with an early aspect between Mercury in Leo and Jupiter in Aries.  You may feel over-optimistic and sure all your problems will be resolved, but that’s not a bad signal to send out into the universe, is it?

Your energy may flag, though, as the day continues and we encounter the New Moon in Cancer with an eclipse of the Sun.  The New Moon is a time to remain fairly quiet and indrawn if possible and even more so with an eclipse.

The New Moon is a day of conception, when deep in the recesses of our psyches new ideas are born.  When the Solar energy is eclipsed by the Moon, we feel more keenly the introspective and intuitive feminine energy of the Moon.  This is why the day of the eclipse should be spent enjoying interior activities, at home, in quiet spaces.  Meditating and visioning are great ways to spend the day of the eclipse; traveling and working are not.  Even if you must work and interact with the public, try to reserve some part of your day for resting and silence.

Have a great week!
